DJ Marshmello Pays $22 Million for Ultra-Contemporary Bel Air Mansion

Chris Comstock is still in his early 30s, but the Philadelphia native has now been one of music’s top-earning performers for a full decade as Marshmello, the EDM DJ and record producer best known for his smiley-faced bucket head mask.

According to Forbes, Comstock has previously earned more than $50 million in a single year through a combination of worldwide touring, six-figure nightly DJ fees and hit singles. He’s also sourced income through some decidedly controversial methods, too—in 2024, Comstock faced fierce scrutiny after it was revealed he’d used a COVID-related grant to enrich himself to the tune of $9.9 million in taxpayer funds.

Money controversies aside, everyone can agree that Marshmello’s new house is a big helping of pillowy and sugary luxury. Late last year, Comstock quietly paid $22.4 million for this striking, rockstar-worthy mansion in Bel Air.

Built new in 2017, the 11,000-square-foot contemporary structure last sold that same year for just over $19 million to billionaire Diana Chen, China’s so-called “steel princess”. It was Chen who sold the house to Comstock, seven years later.

Sited high atop a steep ridge directly overlooking Stone Canyon Reservoir, the blocky house is tucked securely behind gates and towering hedges, making it essentially invisible from the street.

Though the place is a veritable sea of hard edges and right angles outside, it gets much softer inside. A pivoting front door opens into the home’s light-filled open floorplan, where you’ll find walls of glass and honey-hued hardwood floors throughout.

There’s a sitting area serviced by a wet bar, a chef’s kitchen with white oak cabinetry and an adjoining dining area with views of the infinity-edged swimming pool and tree-dotted surrounding hilltops through disappearing walls of glass.

The main house offers five ensuite bedrooms: one on the main level and the other four upstairs, where a skylit hallway leads to the various private retreats. The soothing primary bedroom sports a fireside sitting area, a spa-style bath, a closet with custom built-ins and a private balcony with watery reservoir views.

A separate guesthouse offers another full bedroom suite for friends, family or a live-in staff member. Other household amenities include garaging for four cars, a gym, numerous patios for al fresco dining and/or lounging, and terraced gardens laced with lush, manicured plantings.

In addition to his music success, Comstock is also somewhat of a real estate mogul. Though he hasn’t lived there in years, he still owns his multimillion-dollar starter home, a Hollywood Hills property he bought way back in 2017 for $3.6 million. He’s also got two multimillion-dollar houses in L.A.’s Studio City neighborhood, both of which are occupied by various family members. And in 2020, he paid $10.8 million for a mansion in the 90210 guard-gated community of Mulholland Estates, which he flipped less than four years later for exactly $15 million.
