In Bel Air, a Hillside House Quietly Sells for $67 Million

After being privately shopped around off-market for as much as $100 million, records show that a lavish contemporary mansion in prime Bel Air has changed hands for $67.5 million, an amount that still easily makes it one of the year’s priciest deals.

We have not yet confirmed who the buyer is, so stay tuned for more on that. We do know, however, that the seller was businessman Dara Mir, who is perhaps best-known to the public as the estranged husband of former “Shahs of Sunset” cast member Lilly Ghalichi, who is also the founder of the Lilly Lashes and Hairtamin vitamin brands. The erstwhile couple is in the process of divorcing, so it’s hardly a surprise they’ve now opted to sell their marital home, likely to split the profits to acquire new places of their own.

Per tax records, the house sits on a very steeply sloped 1.6-acre lot that overlooks the golf greens of the ultra-prestigious Bel-Air Country Club. It’s also right next door to the former longtime main residence of Elon Musk, which the Tesla and SpaceX tycoon sold a few years ago for $29 million to Chinese billionaire Wei Ding.

Mir acquired the property way back in 2012 for $6.1 million. He subsequently spent 10 years and tens of millions tearing down the humble existing residence and constructing a monumental concrete-and-steel contemporary edifice in its place. Finally completed circa 2022, the nearly 30,000-square-foot home stands three stories tall and is awash with bespoke finishes and amenities.

For starters, all the windows and doors are Riviera Bronze steel, while the floors are a mix of imported travertine and white oak hardwood. There are no fewer than three kitchens on the premises: a “show kitchen” with dual islands clad in white oak and quartzite, a separate catering/cook’s kitchen for staff to prep food out of sight of guests, and a staff kitchenette—presumably where the live-in help are intended to cook their own meals.

There are also no fewer than 10 bedrooms on the premises. The gigantic primary suite, done all up in soothing earth-toned colors and soft materials, flaunts a huge private outdoor terrace that packs in a jacuzzi, fire-pit, multiple lounging/sunbathing areas and views of the city lights and ocean.

Still other highlights include a state-of-the-art movie theater, an infinity pool, two commercial-grade elevators, an underground parking garage, a sports court, gym and wellness center with spa and massage facilities. And if none of those spaces provide the moment of quiet serenity you’re seeking, try the home’s central courtyard, which features a tranquil water feature and seating areas flanked by rows of olive trees.

So what do Mir and Ghalichi intend to do with the profits on this place? While Ghalichi does not yet appear to have purchased a new home, Mir has just paid $28.5 million for a smaller—but no less lavish—mansion elsewhere in Bel Air.

Sold by Erewhon owners Tony and Josephine Antoci—who actually acquired the house just last year for $22.5 million—the 15,000-square-foot contemporary manor is basically a smaller and not-quite-as-customized version of Mir’s old place, complete with travertine floors, steel windows, two kitchens, city lights views and terraces bedecked with mature olive trees.
