Only days after they sold Brad Pitt a $12 million Hollywood Hills home, Dave and Emilie Keuning have moved on to a new and bigger project: the longtime guitarist of rock band The Killers and his wife were the buyers who just paid $17 million for the longtime L.A. home of Jim Carrey.
Large and well-located but somewhat dated, the “Dumb and Dumber” star’s Brentwood property was first listed at $28.9 million more than two years ago before being price-chopped down to $19.7 million. It ultimately sold to the Keunings at a substantial 41% discount off the original ask.
Still, it appears to still be a solid return for Carrey, who bought the ranch-style place way back in 1994 for just $3.8 million. The 2-acre compound is comprised of a sprawling, five-bedroom main house that spans more than 10,000 square feet of mostly single-story living space, plus a pool house that includes a sauna and steam room. There are also various patios and terraces ideal for large-scale outdoor entertaining, along with lush gardens and plenty of mature trees.
Invisible from the street behind a towering brick wall and an even more towering hedge, the main structure is fronted by a concrete motorcourt and a brick walkway. Directly behind the residence are a freeform swimming pool and spa, and further down the hillside you’ll find a full-size tennis court shaded by a forest-like canopy of trees.
Inside, the home’s whitewashed and clean-lined interiors belie its more traditional and old-school exteriors. Highlights include a multi-windowed breakfast room, an Art Deco-style movie theater with an attached gallery, and numerous sets of French doors that open to various gardens and lounge areas.
The primary bedroom suite features an unusual wood-paneled bathroom with a fireplace and built-in soaking tub. Also on the premises are rolling lawns and what the listing describes as an “outdoor meditation platform” tucked amongst the trees.
Presumably the jet-setting Keunings—they also continue to maintain a home in Copenhagen—will give Carrey’s place a decorative makeover not unlike the one given to the L.A. property they just flipped to Pitt.
It’s also certainly worth noting that the former Carrey estate sprawls across two separate but contiguous parcels of land, meaning the buyers have the option of splitting the estate up into two separate 1-acre properties and developing side-by-side new homes on the premises—should they go down that pricey road.
The existing house lies well north of Sunset Boulevard, on a very prime hillside Brentwood street that’s famously also home to stars such as LeBron James, Travis Scott, and Russell Westbrook. New homes on this street have sold for well over $20 million on multiple occasions.
No word yet regarding where Carrey plans to relocate his primary residence. But we do know that he continues to own a oceanfront estate on the Hawaiian island of Maui; the 63-year-old paid $16.5 million for that Kihei home nearly a decade ago.
Reportedly, the Canadian-born comic also keeps a vacation cottage near Baptiste Lake in the province of Ontario, not far from his native Toronto.
