Though he’s been quite vocal about his disdain for California’s sky-high tax rates—and his intention to move to an area of the country where there are no state income taxes—Gene Simmons nonetheless still maintains a Beverly Hills house that he bought a couple of years ago for $10.5 million.
Now the legendary KISS rocker and his longtime wife Shannon Tweed are fortifying their Golden State foothold even more, having recently paid prolific mansion collector Miriam Schaeffer, the ex-wife of OPI nail polish founder George Schaeffer, a hefty $25 million for a 2.5-acre estate resting in the far northwest reaches of Malibu, above the popular Neptune’s Net restaurant.
The couple—who got a particularly nice deal on the originally listed $32 million home—are the new deed holders of a contemporary eco-conscious structure known as “Zero One,” which was built and designed in 2021 by Crowne Pointe Estates and architect Doug Burdge using sustainable timber and recycled concrete and features Tesla batteries and solar panels for zero-carbon emissions.
Securely tucked away behind walls and gates in the Marisol Malibu community, amid a “meticulously planned” parcel of land laced with 300 trees, organic fruit orchards, vegetable gardens and beehives, the modern ranch-style home has six bedrooms and nine baths in almost 14,500 square feet of living space boasting vast expanses of glass providing sweeping coastal vistas.
A glassy front door opens into a hallway flaunting twin climate-controlled wine displays. From there, a voluminous open-concept great room resting beneath a vaulted wood-paneled ceiling dotted with skylights and designer light fixtures holds a living area sprting a massive marble-clad fireplace and seated wet bar. An adjacent dining area adjoins a sleekly designed kitchen outfitted with not one but two eat-in islands and top-tier Miele appliances, with the entire space spilling out to a covered fireside terrace bolstered by a grilling station.
