Dodgers Superstar Freddie Freeman Slides Into Elegant Pasadena Estate

Two years ago, Freddie Freeman famously shelled out $7.8 million for an all-new spec house in prime Studio City. That showpiece of a modern farmhouse came complete with limestone floors, an infrared sauna, a black-bottom swimming pool, and a fully detached guesthouse.

Nice as that place is, it would seem that the luxe spread just wasn’t a home run for the Dodgers baseball superstar, his longtime wife Chelsea, and their family. Last summer, the house popped back up for sale at $9 million; a year later, it remains available at a substantially reduced $7.9 million, or only a tiny sliver above what the Freemans paid.

Still, Freeman—who was World Series MVP last year and currently plays on a $162 million contract with the Dodgers—has no need to wait until his old house sells in order to finance a new one. The 35-year-old SoCal native is long gone from Studio City, having quietly dropped $7.6 million for a similarly-sized but substantially more private Pasadena home.

Tucked away at the very end of a hidden cul-de-sac in the low-key but very prestigious Linda Vista neighborhood, the new Freeman digs were never listed on the open market, so you’ll have to use your imagination to picture most of the amenities. But tax records indicate the vaguely T-shaped house dates to the 1930s, has been renovated and enlarged in recent years, and now features four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and a single powder room in a roomy 5,300 square feet of living space.

Naturally, the property is walled, gated, and surrounded by towering hedges for privacy. In addition to a two-car garage, there’s a substantial motorcourt with space for a good half-dozen more vehicles, plus ancient oak trees that provide the parking area with ample shade throughout the day.

Out back, a substantial flagstone patio wraps around a rectangular swimming pool, and the manicured grounds include sprays of white roses framed by carefully clipped boxwoods. The 0.66-acre lot also features both covered and al fresco spots for outdoor dining and lounging.

Pasadena, once the stodgy stepchild of L.A.’s high-end real estate market, has quickly become popular with celebrities in recent years; current residents include everyone from Meryl Streep and Kristen Wiig to Oscar De La Hoya, Lily Collins and Grimes.

And in addition to his new Pasadena home and for-sale Studio City mansion, Freeman also maintains a $10 million vacation home in Orange County’s Corona del Mar neighborhood that he bought way back in 2019 (below).
