It’s been said that the primary reason people seek to relocate can usually be boiled down to just one of three life-altering events: diapers, divorce, and death. And yes, more often than not, a quick home sale or buy often stems from a new baby, a divorce, or the death of a spouse or homeowner.
In the case of this attractive Hollywood Hills home, the reason for the listing seems obvious. Actress Aubrey Plaza, best known for her comedic and dramatic roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “The White Lotus,” respectfully, bought the house three years ago for $4.7 million. Earlier this year, her husband Jeff Baena committed suicide on the property; unsurprisingly, the 0.3-acre mini-estate is now publicly offered for sale, asking $6.5 million.
Now that we’ve gotten those ugly details out of the way, let’s discuss the house itself, which is nothing if not sophisticated and thoroughly renovated. Built in 1928, the Spanish Revival-style residence lies just a quick jog from Griffith Park and basically across the street from the ever-popular Los Feliz neighborhood.
Like many stylish homes in this area, the property also has a celebrity history. “Portlandia” creator Jonathan Krisel bought the place in 2017, paying $3.7 million; it was he who ultimately sold the place to Plaza in 2022. The 4,000-square-foot house underwent a big renovation in recent years, and while we’re not sure what the structure looked like prior to the remodel, we are quite certain the current iteration will divide real estate fans, some of whom may find the interiors a bit too contemporary and fixed-up for their personal taste. But there’s no question this style is what a majority of today’s luxury L.A. homebuyers are seeking, so we have little doubt the property will find a moneyed new owner in short order.
The primary bedroom sports walls painted a matte pale pink, while the ensuite primary bath has clearly been extensively renovated, and is now awash in stone everything. Also on tap are a screening room, a wine cellar, an oversized steam room, and three guest bedrooms.
While not particularly expansive, the backyard is exceedingly private—bountiful tropical plantings and a thick hedge wall surround the entire property. Set well below the house lies a rectangular pool, and there are abundant terracotta patios and sunbathing terraces to be found. Out front, the two-car garage features a custom blacked-out door.
No word yet regarding where Plaza plans to move, but she’s been spending quite a bit of time in New York in recent years. The 41-year-old Delaware native is currently set to produce and star in “The Heidi Fleiss story,” a biopic about the notorious Hollywood madame.
