Rocker Matty Healy Buys a 1920s Oasis in Beachwood Canyon

Though Matty Healy—or his sharp-tongued mother, for that matter—certainly won’t be getting any friendship bracelets from Taylor Swift anytime soon, he appears to have happily moved on from the “Fortnight” singer he briefly and very publicly dated two years ago.

The frontman for the British pop-rock band The 1975 has officially settled into a Los Angeles home with his model fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel, having quietly picked up the Hollywood Hills spread back last year for just over $2.6 million.

The couple, who split their time between L.A. and London—where they bunk up at a minimalist pad in the Hackney neighborhood on the city’s east side—now own a three-bedroom, four-bath house with 2,205 square feet of living space that interior design enthusiast Gabriette has probably already decked out to suit the low-key pair’s personal tastes.

Originally completed in the late 1920s and since updated, the two-story home was marketed as a timeless Spanish Revival, complete with a creamy stucco exterior and red terracotta roof. Rich hardwood floors, high wood-beamed ceilings, plaster walls and arched doorways are found throughout the structure, though the visual centerpiece is arguably the resort-like outdoor spaces, which are collectively described as a “Bali jungle hideaway.”

Canyon views and natural light abound, with a hand-carved wood door flanked by brightly hued mosaic tile and vintage light fixtures leading into a fireside living room flaunting hinged French windows opening to Juliette balconies. There’s also a large kitchen with a tucked-away breakfast banquette and a master suite offering both an indoor spa tub and a patio with a hot tub.

The house itself is located on an 8,100-square-foot double lot in L.A.’s tightly packed Beachwood Canyon neighborhood. In addition to an attached two-car garage sitting street side, it features a remarkably private backyard with a grassy patch of lawn, terraces and decks, a waterfall-fed pond and what the listing referred to as a “Pole House,” complete with a TV, fireplace and elevated sleeping area.

The entire yard is also ringed by mature Banyan trees, which provide further privacy and add to the property’s Bali-flavored vibe. And from the house, some of the city’s trendiest shops and dining destinations are just a quick jog away.
