Apparently selling giant, ultra-sweet cookies at $5 a pop makes for a very profitable business, and few know this better than Crumbl cofounder Sawyer Hemsley. The entrepreneurial Utah native, 33, was still in college when he started Crumbl with his cousin Jason McGowan; since then, the company has grown into a billion-dollar brand with over 1,000 franchise locations and millions of followers on social media—all in under 10 years.
As Crumbl experienced rapid growth, Hemsley’s net worth likewise soared to new sugary highs. We don’t know how much money is in the marketing guru’s bank account, but we do know he is rich enough to buy a $12 million mansion in prime Hollywood Hills, sited on a ridge directly overlooking the bustling, occasionally rowdy city of West Hollywood. Earlier this month, Hemsley paid cash for the contemporary showpiece, which boasts some 6,500 square feet of glitzy living space.
If this house looks vaguely familiar, it may be because it was previously the primary residence of Victoria’s Secret model Daniela Braga, who suffered a high-profile burglary at the property last year. The crooks reportedly made off with more than $1 million worth of designer luxury goods, marking yet another troubling chapter in a story that has become all too familiar in the L.A. area.
Built in 2015 on speculation, the home first sold that same year for $11.5 million to Erik Litmanovich, the CEO of food manufacturer Golden West Food Group. Seven years later, Litmanovich dumped the place for $11.3 million to Braga and her husband, investor Adam Freede; it was Freede who just offloaded it to Hemsley for about $12 million.
Tucked away near the end of a cul-de sac and discreetly shielded behind walls and gates, the blocky house is all ultra-contemporary outside, but transitions to more of a unique fusion of contemporary and modern farmhouse design within. Knotty hardwood floors are underfoot and reclaimed barn wood line the ceilings, plus there are abundant earth tones for a warmly minimalist vibe throughout the structure.
Architect Jay Vanos and design firm Bowery Design Group each had a hand in the two-level mansion, which offers a total of six bedrooms and eight bathrooms—quite large compared to most other homes in the tightly-packed Hollywood Hills. The structure also sits on a rare half-acre flat lot, with views that take in L.A.’s city lights far below.
Other highlights include a glassy and temperature-controlled wine cellar, a gym, movie theater, attached three-car garage, and walls of disappearing glass pocket doors throughout. But the property’s visual centerpiece is undoubtedly the raised and zero-edge pool, which is positioned directly in the middle of a courtyard-like patio for maximum visual oomph.
Hemsley’s cookie domination has allowed him to become something of a real estate investor. In addition to his glam bachelor pad high in the hills above WeHo, he also maintains a Las Vegas condo and has ownership interests in a handful of Utah properties.
But for now, the main Hemsley residence remains a recently completed, custom-built mansion in the Salt Lake City suburb of Orem. Decidedly maximalist inside, that 9,000-square-foot architectural fusion was opened to the public in this year’s Utah Valley Parade of Homes.
