Late last year, longtime Sony Music Publishing CEO Jon Platt officially unveiled his company’s lavish new flagship offices in Hollywood’s Sycamore media district. Characterized by the Hollywood Reporter as “warm and inviting, with neutral tones,” the space was described as ideal for “fostering creativity” by Platt himself, who presides over SMP’s multibillion-dollar music empire headlined by artists like Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran.
Around that same time, Platt and his longtime wife Angie were also making some big real estate moves on the residential front—they were the buyers who quietly paid $21.5 million for a lavish traditional-style home in L.A.’s ultra-posh Pacific Palisades Riviera neighborhood. (For some context, this deal closed just before the recent Palisades wildfires. And the Platt house, as far as we can tell, survived the disaster unscathed.)
Built in 2015, the traditional-style mansion last sold in 2016 for $16.5 million to pest control mogul David Royce. It appears Royce had wanted as much as $24 million for the 12,000-square-foot house, which lies walking distance from the L.A. homes of Steven Spielberg, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sugar Ray Leonard, though Platt ultimately negotiated a 10% discount.
Gated and secured with a state-of-the-art alarm system, the house features seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms spread across three full levels of living space, with grand-scale main floor rooms for entertaining, private family quarters upstairs and a full basement. Guests and occupants access the various floors by either old-school stairs or a more modern commercial-grade elevator.
Characterized by walls of glassy doors and white oak hardwood floors, the house is light and bright throughout. In addition to the typical reception areas—a fireplace-equipped living room, a family room and a dining room—there are two bedroom suites on the main level, both of them ideal for guests or a live-in housekeeper or nanny. Also on tap is a marble-slathered kitchen with eat-in seating and brass lighting fixtures.
Four ensuite family bedrooms are located upstairs, and the primary suite is equipped with dual baths, dual closets and a private balcony overlooking the backyard and surrounding treetops. The basement level, meanwhile, is tricked out for good-timey rest and relaxation—in addition to a dedicated movie theater, there’s also a separate “screening room,” a wet bar and a state-of-the-art gym.
Outside, the property’s half-acre of grounds are exquisitely landscaped, with a lush grassy lawn, plenty of trees and manicured hedgerows. Per the listing, the CEO-worthy estate also includes commanding views from the upstairs level that sweep over Beverly Hills and down to “the picturesque coastline of Catalina.”
The Platts have just recently sold their old house, a Tuscan-style Encino mansion they owned for more than a decade. Records reveal that house went for $5.6 million to Nolan Lambroza, a record producer and songwriter who has crafted hits with the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber.
