When he’s not jet-setting for concerts around the globe or cheekily exposing the romantic indiscretions of his philandering fans, Chris Martin keeps himself busy by making adjustments to his Malibu real estate portfolio. The seaside California town has been the Coldplay crooner’s primary residence for well over a decade, and he now owns no fewer than five separate properties in the city, all of them within or near the Point Dume neighborhood.
Martin’s latest acquisition flew under the radar: a few months ago, he quietly paid $18.5 million for a 3.8-acre estate that lies right next door to another property he’s owned since 2018. And just last week, he put a different Malibu home up for sale—a petite ranch-style structure that’s saddled with a $7.25 million price tag.
The $18.5 million compound Martin recently bought includes a Cape Cod-style main house, plus two separate guesthouses equipped with their own living rooms and kitchenettes. Altogether, the estate offers a total of eight bedrooms and nine baths in about 6,000 square feet of living space.
While the Pacific Coast Highway-adjacent property is not actually on Point Dume, the listing notes it is mere “minutes from Zuma Beach and Point Dume,” and offers an amount of lush tranquility and private land rarely found in Malibu. Indeed, the place is a veritable sea of mature trees and grassy lawns, and the huge motor court offers ample space for more than a dozen cars.
The single-story main house was built in the 1950s but recently underwent a renovation. Inside, you’ll find hickory floors, soaring sloped ceilings, and an enormous living room with a fireplace and walls of glass windows. Also on tap are a formal dining room, a kitchen with marble countertops and a pricey Lacanche stove, and a family/media room.
A long hallway connects the main home’s public rooms to the structure’s four ensuite bedrooms, including a soothing primary retreat outfitted with a fireplace, dual bathrooms and leafy backyard vistas.
That house and the two guesthouses—which are both stylistically and essentially mini-me versions of the main house—all share the backyard, which features a patio with a fire-pit and BBQ grill. Elsewhere on the premises are chicken coop, bocce court, vegetable garden, treehouse, and the requisite swimming pool and spa.
As previously mentioned, this place happens to sit right next door to another Martin-owned property: the former Malibu Playhouse, which was once a church but most recently a 99-seat community theater.
But unlike either of those two estates, the $7.25 million house Martin is selling is actually located on prestigious Point Dume. Built in 1960, that structure is much more petite than his other homes, sporting just 1,800 square feet of living space, but was recently renovated with no expense spared.
Set on a half-acre flat lot that includes a coveted key to nearly-private Little Dume Beach, the turnkey ranch house has white oak radiant heated floors, a living room with walls of glass, a Bulthaup-designed kitchen with Gaggenau and Miele appliances, and four bedrooms and three baths. There’s also an attached two-car garage that is currently configured as a gym, while the fully landscaped grounds are laced with mature trees and have ample room to add a pool or guesthouse, per the listing.
Martin acquired this Malibu residence way back in 2018, paying $5.5 million. Though he never actually lived on the property, the 48-year-old Brit did fully customize the place to his tastes and primarily used it to house friends and family who were visiting from out of town. Now it can be yours, provided you’ve got the scratch.
