You Oughta Know… That Alanis Morissette Just Bought an $11 Million L.A. Mansion

It’s just a little too “Ironic,” don’t you think? Eight years ago, Alanis Morissette sold her Brentwood, Los Angeles home of 21 years, moving to Northern California and telling the New York Times that she was “finally done with Los Angeles.”

But in spite of that, L.A. has already won her over yet again. Now the 1990s music superstar has returned, and she’s quite literally right back where she started. Morissette fell “Head Over Feet” for a three-year-old home in prime Brentwood, barely half a mile from her former longtime residence. She paid the full $11 million asking price for her new family-sized house, which was built in the trendy modern farmhouse style.

Situated on a prime street comfortably north of Sunset Boulevard, the gated residence spans about 5,200 square feet; its blindingly white exterior walls are contrasted by blacked-out window trims and the two-car garage door.

Inside, an open floorplan and abundant natural light defines the two-story structure, which boasts honey-hued hardwood floors, recessed lighting and designer finishes throughout. On the main floor, a fireplace-equipped living room flows into the family room and adjoining kitchen, which offers waterfall stone counters and the requisite premium appliances. Also on tap downstairs are a wood-paneled office, a movie theater, guest bedroom suite and a powder room.

Upstairs are four family bedrooms, all of which pack in ensuite full bathrooms. The primary suite boasts a vaulted ceiling and a stone bathroom with an exceptionally large shower, plus a private balcony with views overlooking the grassy backyard.

Speaking of the yard, the quarter-acre property backs up to a steep hillside laced with mature trees, so privacy and secluded serenity is assured. And there are plenty of resort-style amenities, too—a covered patio ideal for outdoor dining and lounging, a saltwater swimming pool with an inset spa, and a poolside cabana with a fireplace and flatscreen TV.

Property records indicate the seller of this property—media executive Jason Hirschhorn—did very well for himself in the transaction. Hirschhorn acquired the then-brand-new house three years ago, paying $8.3 million. Apart from hiring an interior designer to put a more colorful spin on things, it appears he made few changes to the place before flipping it to Morissette at a $2.7 million profit, minus maintenance, property taxes and L.A.’s pesky Measure ULA “the mansion” tax, of course.

As for Morissette, she and husband Mario Treadway also continue to own a $5 million estate in the Northern California city of Lafayette.
