Though it was never listed for sale on the open market, an unusually large estate tucked away high in the Hollywood Hills recently sold for exactly $20 million, property records reveal. The sellers were Hollywood comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and his now ex-wife Isla Fisher, who had used the Mediterranean-style compound as their stateside family home for the last 15 years.
The all-cash buyer is Claire Boucher, the successful Canadian musician better known by her stage name Grimes. While the art pop phenom, 37, has been commercially successful and sports a devoted fanbase, she’s become most widely known to the general public for her on-again/off-again relationship with billionaire Elon Musk. The occasionally Twitter-feuding pair share three children together.
Because the Hollywood Hills estate was not on the market—and has not been on the market for many years—many of the home’s current features and amenities remain a closely-guarded mystery. However, we do know that the “Borat” star and Fisher bought the place in 2010, paying $14 million for the very private sprawler, which lies secreted far behind towering walls and gates on famed Mulholland Drive, the two-lane road that snakes through the very top of L.A.’s hills.
Originally built in the 1940s, the Mediterranean villa-style main house is joined by several additional buildings: there are a guesthouse with its own separate gated driveway and garage, a detached home theater, and a caretaker’s cottage ideal for a live-in bodyguard, gardener or estate manager, plus a full-size tennis court with its own clubhouse. Altogether, the property offers a total of at least seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
Also on tap are a large rectangular swimming pool, manicured lawns and hedges, and nearly 4-acres of heavily wooded land laced with mature trees and meandering pathways.
Grimes is upgrading to Hollywood from Pasadena, where since 2018 she’s owned a five-bedroom home tucked into one of the San Gabriel Valley city’s most desirable neighborhood pockets. Records reveal that she also recently acquired a two-bedroom luxury condo at The Shore tower in Austin, Texas, where Musk is now based. As for Baron Cohen and Fisher, the former pair are both reportedly long gone from L.A., having already traded Tinseltown for London.

Thanks for letting us know, I’ll be avoiding Mulholland on my commute from now on. She is one scary lady.
